Why Is Dental Health So Important For Us?

Why Is Dental Health So Important For Us?

Updated: February 15, 2022

Talking to someone without covering your mouth shows confidence. And, confidence means having a strong personality. There are a lot of advantages if you have perfect dental health. You can freely smile, talk to everyone and you are sure your health is excellent because your oral health is great too. Dental health isn’t about smiles and white teeth; it’s also about you.

According to new research, the condition of your mouth reflects the condition of your body. If you have good dental health, it means you have a healthy body, however, if your mouth has poor oral health it says there’s something wrong with your whole system.

Gum Disease and Stroke?

Research shows, having bad oral health can lead to heart disease or stroke. Women with poor dental health are prone to having low-weight babies as compared to moms with a healthy mouth.

Research also shows us, 90% of diseases have manifestation from poor oral health. It includes swollen gums, ulcers in the mouth, gum problems and dry mouth. If a person experiences swollen gums, apparently this can lead to difficulties with their kidneys or heart. Other diseases are diabetes, oral cancer, pancreatic cancer, and leukemia.

Have regular checkups with your dentist because they are the first line of defense in identifying health problems. With a dental checkup, they can provide better oral care for you.

Other Health Problems, Caused by Poor Oral Care

Digestive problems: The digestion process starts in the mouth, but having poor oral health can produce serious digestive issues. The moment that we take our food into our mouth we already push bad bacteria into our digestive system. Poor oral health can bring intestinal failure, bowel disorders, and gastrointestinal damage.

Heart, and other significant problems: Problems in the mouth can lead to heart disease. For instance, mouth infections can cause damage to heart tissue. If you don’t take care of a mouth infection, the bacteria in your mouth becomes bacterial endocarditis.

Facial and oral pain: A gum infection causes pain in the mouth. Gingivitis is an early stage of gum disease. If left untreated, this could cause loss of teeth and severe gum problems.

How to Maintain Oral Health?

A regular dental checkup is essential. Your dentist will become your best friend when it comes to maintaining a healthy oral condition. He will do an oral examination, provide dental treatments, and give regular checkups.

Apart from seeing your dentist, you can also maintain the good condition of your mouth. Remember, when mom told you to brush your teeth twice a day? Health is the primary reason for that.

Oral Hygiene That You Can Do in Your Home

Brush your teeth at least twice a day. Use fluoridated toothpaste and brush your teeth for at least two minutes.

Use dental floss every day. Floss is usually undermined, especially with children. Encourage yourself, and your children to use floss daily because it removes plaque in between teeth which can’t be reached by brushing.

Eat healthy foods. Sweets and other sugary products cause your dental health to deteriorate. As much as possible, eat food with high nutrients to prevent any gum diseases.

Tobacco can damage your mouth. Nicotine is the most common cause of tar in a smoker’s teeth. If you don’t avoid smoking, this can lead to oral cancer and other gum diseases.
